A Year Spent In Bespoke Automation

18 September 2024

University of Leeds Student Jack has completed his 12 month placement with Sewtec.

Jack an engineering student currently studying at the University of Leeds has just completed his 3rd year working in industry at Sewtec.

Jack said – “I have spent a year on placement at Sewtec Automation, predominately within the mechanical design team. During my time at Sewtec I was given the opportunity to carry out varied tasks including designing, detailing, 3D printing and writing documents. This has been really beneficial as I have had a chance to gain a wider understanding of how the mechanical design team functions in the real world. I have also had the opportunity to work alongside other colleagues in different departments to ultimately deliver completed machines to customers, to agreed upon timescales. I cannot express just how much I really enjoyed my placement at Sewtec and feel this experience will definitely support my final year at University.”

“On beginning my placement, I spent time within various departments and teams around the business, allowing me to quickly learn how best to work with other departments when returning to mechanical design. This time also allowed me to form relationships across the company, which then benefitted me later in the year while working with others.”

“I would highly recommend Sewtec Automation as a company to both work for and spend time on placement at. I feel that I have gained lots from the experience and furthered my knowledge greatly. Everyone that I have worked with has been welcoming and more than happy to help and answer any questions that I may have had.”

Paul Briggs, Technical Director said “It has been a pleasure having Jack with us for these last 12 months, he has been someone that certainly grabbed this opportunity with both hands.  Right from day one Jack showed a willingness to learn and never shied away from any task we gave him.  He is a real credit to his University and someone who we believe has the ability to have a rewarding career at Sewtec.  We look forward to Jack joining us as a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer when he completes his final year at University.”
