How has Covid affected the manufacturing industry?
The manufacturing industry has been affected in significantly different ways, depending on the products that are being made. Some have seen sales grow massively, resulting in a scaling up of operations, including new machinery and staff. Other companies are having to control costs and profitability by optimising their factory processes.

How has the pandemic affected business at Sewtec?
2020 has been a challenging year, yet the teams at Sewtec have been able to stay on top of changes and have adapted ways of working to operate with a business-as-usual approach.
A number of our teams and colleagues are working remotely to allow for increased social distancing on site. We have implemented several health and safety measures for those working on site, including temperature checks, face masks, hand sanitising stations, one-way systems, and staggered break times.
We have created a new virtual tour of our 75,000 sq. ft. facility. This means we are able to offer new and existing customers a guided tour around our impressive site, all from the comfort of home.
We are also trialling virtual Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) with the use of VR headsets. Customers who are unable to attend in person on site can still benefit from a visual inspection of their machine with the use of these headsets. These are worn by our on-site engineers, who can show the customer a live video stream via a video conferencing platform.

We have also grown our technical sales team, recruiting four new talented technical sales managers in the last 5 months. The expansion of this team is due to increased demand for automation across a variety of industries. Thanks to this demand, we are also wanting to recruit three more technical sales managers to service the beverage, renewable energies, and tobacco industries.
