Sewtec Recognised for Sustainability

2 March 2024

Sewtec Automation continue to develop sustainability initiatives for our customers and own business leading to a number of new CSR accolades.

A sustainable approach to automation

Sewtec have a proven track record and are firmly committed to working in a way which promotes the best sustainability practices across our manufacturing processes, whilst supporting our customers to achieve their sustainability goals.

Throughout 2023 Sewtec worked on a number of  large scale projects in partnership with key customers supporting their requirements to reduce an over reliance on single use plastic and allow them to meet their commitments to WRAP.

Once such project involved the new design of a iconic national symbol which resulted in the removal of single use plastic. The team at Sewtec could not have been any prouder  be part of such an amazing project and the feedback from the consumer has been amazing.

The Royal British Legion’s Executive Director of Marketing, Fundraising and Remembrance, Gary Ryan said, “We’re proud to have produced a plastic-free poppy that will enable people to show their support for our Armed Forces community in a more sustainable way. We are thankful to our long-standing supplier Sewtec, who designed and built our new machines to manufacture the new poppy. The company’s technical expertise and knowledge has culminated in three state-of-the-art machines which are now in full production. The RBL provides a lifeline for serving personnel, veterans and their families facing hardship, injury and bereavement. We hope our new plastic-free poppy will encourage even more people to support the Poppy Appeal this year and help us continue our work.”

We strongly believe that our commitment to sustainability has led to Sewtec being awarded a number of new accolades, including a gold corporate social responsibility (CSR) rating by global independent assessment agency EcoVadis, two Green Apple Environment awards, Chamber of Commerce Green Business of the Year and 5 Star Zero Waste award.

We believe we achieved these awards due to our focus on energy-efficient manufacturing processes, design of environmentally friendly automation systems, commitment to the local community and the creation of highly skilled jobs. We do not intend to rest on laurels and so far in 2024, we have already committed to working with the SBTi to set science-based targets and introduced a sustainability portal into the business to enable the capture of carbon data.
